Update On Conference

Booking for the Networking Evening - Friday 1st July 2016 are now open

Where: Peel Street Grill and Cellar Function Room, 35 Peel St, South Brisbane QLD 4101 (Capitol Apartments)

Time: 6.30pm - 8:30pm 

Cost: $55.00 (including GST)

Please note that this is a shared hot platter style dinner, in a mixed seated/standing room function room, ideal for networking. The price includes a 2 hour unlimited bar (soft drinks, beer, wine and chambers) but hard liquor will need to be paid for up front.  You can continue the party after the time limit is up, but it will not be paid for by CYA Conference, but we would recommend that you get some sleep ahead of an early morning the next day.

We will post the exact menu at a later date ( for those with allergies and intolerances so you know what is vegetarian  gluten free and dairy free) - but they should include items like:

Crispy pork belly, roman friend squid, twice cooked chicken wings, tempura salt ’n pepper tofu, cheese boards with vintage cheddars, blue vein and double cream brie with drunken currents and an assortments of lavish and breakers  bread and dip platters with selections of gourmet toasted and fresh breads with house made dips etc.

Zoe WaltonZoe Walton - Zoe Walton is a Publisher at Penguin Random House Australia, where her focus is on middle grade and YA fiction.

Zoe edits New York Times bestselling author John Flanagan with his Ranger’s Apprentice and Brotherband series, which have sold eight million copies worldwide. She also publishes many popular and award-winning Australian authors, including Tristan Bancks, Christine Bongers, Fleur Ferris, Emily Gale, Darren Groth, John Larkin and Belinda Murrell.


 For her one-on-one assessments at CYA Conference 2016, Zoe will be looking at:
Middle grade and YA fiction. NO PICTURE BOOKS.


Alex Adsett headshotAlex Adsett - is a literary agent and publishing consultant with more than eighteen years experience working in the publishing and book selling industry and has managed Alex Adsett Publishing Service since 2008. 

As an agent, Alex represents a select group of amazing authors – working in science fiction & fantasy, crime, romance, young adult, middle reader and illustrated picture books. With a growing stable of authors, she is always on the lookout for something new to fall in love with. 

As a publishing consultant, Alex offers publishing contract and negotiating advice to authors, publishers and booksellers.  She has worked for or with many different publishers and authors, serves on the board of Small Press Network, and for many years also the boards of the Queensland Writers’ Centre, and Queensland Literary Awards, and is often to be found on twitter at @alexadsett or via her website

For her one-on-one assessments at CYA Conference 2016,  Alex will be looking at: 

YA spec fic/crime/romance, or general advice about publishing careers, contracts etc.

Jill webJill Corcoran - Prior to becoming a literary agent, Jill worked at Mattel, LA Gear, Leo Burnett Advertising, and her own company, LAUNCH! New Product Marketing. With an English degree from Stanford University and a Marketing and Finance MBA from the University of Chicago School of Business, Jill has marketed everything from Barbies and Disney toys, to Kellogg’s cereal, hair care and sneakers. Writer turned lit agent, Jill opened the West Coast arm of Herman Agency in 2009. In the summer of 2014, Jill launched Jill Cororan Literacy Agency.

Jill’s poetry anthology, DARE TO DREAM...CHANGE THE WORLD  (Kane/Miller, 2012) was honored with the American Library Association 2013 Notable Books for a Global Society Award, a California Reading Association’s 2012 Eureka! Silver Honor, and was named a Best Books of 2013 by Bank Street College of Education. 

For her one-on-one assessments at CYA Conference 2016,  Jill will be looking at:

1 text for picture books, 

novels 10 double spaced paged + synopsis

Illustration portfolio's.

Hotel Bookings open

This year we have a change in hotels. We are utilising the Capitol Appartments, 35 Peel Street, South BrisbaneQLD 4101.


These appartments are within walking distance to the venue, and have free Wi-Fi. They are being charged at the same corporate rate as we are being given. 

CYA Conference will book your room for you, (Hotel Booking Form) but you will be responsible for any extras. CYA Conference will be billed for any extras and we will invoice your for them, and collect payment. 

There are a limited number, so book early to secure a place.


Studio Apartment: $139.00  (No GST on accomodation)
These are small, have 1 x Queenside bed, and will sleep one person.

1 Bedroom apartments: $204.00  ( No GST on accomodation)
These have 1 Queen size bed, and will sleep one person.

2 Bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment: $255.00 (No GST on accomodation)
These have 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, with 1 queen size bed per room, and can sleep 2 adults, they also have shared living space. So get together with a friend ( or CYA can pair you up if you need us to.) 

There is free parking on site, if you drive in - let us know if you plan on using this.

There is breakfast available at the hotel at an extra cost, but it starts serving at 7am. We will update you on what arrangements have been made closer to the date.

As this is only 3 blocks away from TAFE, CYA Conference will not run Taxi’s for delegates in the morning this year.
