This year we have two - yes 2 - agents on site.

Welcome to both international agent Jill Corcoran from the Herman Agency Inc.  USA  and Australian Alex Adsett, Alex Adsett Publishing Service.

Jill will be prereading picture books, chapter books and Young adult texts, as well as seeing illustration portfolio's.

We are so pleased that Jill can join us in Brisbane, she will be at the SCBWI Conference the weekend before in Sydney, Thank you to Susanne G for sharing her with CYA Conference!

AlexWeb2012

Alex will only be reading YA speculative fiction/crime only.

I must note here that if you have something that fits Alex, this is an idea time to show her your work, before she gets super busy and closes to new clients!

(For those who don't know what spec fic is: Speculative fiction is an umbrella term encompassing the more fantastical fiction genres, specifically science fictionfantasyhorrorsupernatural fictionsuperhero fictionutopian and dystopian fictionapocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction…) - Thank you Wikie…

Please remember when you book that the submission process for ALL editor/agent one on one appointments is:

Pre-reading Requirement - for all Children’s or Young Adults Manuscripts & illustration Work:-
Picture books: 2 texts,  ( Note: For Jill there is only 1 picture book text)
Novels: 10 pages + synopsis, or
Illustrations: 4 – 5 samples.

You will also need to send a photograph and a small 100 word BIO on yourself, and the direction you plan to go with your writing/illustrating as a career in the future.

Work must be emailed to info@cyaconference by 14th June 2012.

Times for your editor/agent sessions will be emailed to you one week before conference.

So time is ticking away for this…the sooner you get them in, the sooner they get to the editor/agent and the more time they have to read them, and comment on your work!

Its over for another year, the competitions are closed for 2012.

Well done to everyone who entered, and good luck!

I wanted to thank everyone for being so good this year, for no midnight calls for help, and for getting your entries in on time. Thank you!

I will give tallies etc soon, just getting all the admin behind the scenes done, the entries off to the volunteer judges, then will tell you all about who your final judges are..

Stay tuned.

For us behind the scenes at CYA Conference, we are now in our busy time, arranging flights for your presenters, ensuring small details like menus etc are all done. Its an exciting time - and with the time change, a challenging one as I keep thinking - there is lots of time…but there isn't July 7th is only really 2 months away…ahhhhhh

Its time to begin booking your tickets if you are coming interstate, bookings into CYA Conference for attendance, and shining your work for your editor/agent assessment/meetings.

Not related to CYA Conference at all, but Tristan Bancks was a CYA Presenter last year - and he is brilliant, energetic and so good at passing on what he knows - if you are a QLD local - consider adding this to your professional development this year:

‘Pleased to Meet You: Character Building’ will be run by  the wonderful Tristan Bancks (www.tristanbancks.com) on Saturday 12 May between 10:30am and 4:30pm. The workshop will explore memory, performance, illustration, people-watching, storyboarding, image-gathering, collaboration and the written word. Tristan will guide participants through the process of creating memorable, multi-layered characters which will inspire a short story that will be written throughout the course of the workshop.

This workshop is $110/$99 (concession) for QWC members and $160/$144 (concession) for Non-members. We are also running a bonus promotion and are offering everyone who enrols a free place in either our ‘Publishers & Agents’ or ‘So, You Want to Be A Writer’ Industry IQ seminars (which are usually worth $30 for QWC members and $50 for non-members)

For more information QWC website details are:  http://www.qwc.asn.au/courses-and-events/courses/weekend-workshops/workshops/pleased-to-meet-you-character-building/ or phone QWC on 07 3842 9922.
