News & Updates

News news news and a bit more news....

29th July 2011

Wow CYA has so much news for this page, where do we start......

At the beginning - just like a book.

We have another Success story to share with you.

Congratulations to Kate Wilson , Celapene Press will publish Kate’s second novel, Have A Go, Henry in March 2012.

Please visit Kate on her  CYA Success page for her full journey.

We recently broke the news to those already booked into their editor appointments, that Leonie Tyle would not be with us this year ( she will however be drinking Turkish coffee and thinking of us) for the CYA Conference. But we are being joined once more by Kristina Schulz, from UQP.  This will be Kristina’s fourth visit with CYA Conference, and we are so happy to have her and her expertise onboard again!

More good news is that or the first time, CYA Conference has reserved some great rooms in the Diane Plaza Hotel (just around the corner, in walking distance to the venue at St Laurence’s) for conference attendees at the same corporate rate as we are being given. This rate of $129 is for a Deluxe Queen or a Deluxe Twin and includes one breakfast per room (additional hot breakfast is $10pp). CYA Conference will book your room for you, but you will be responsible for any extras above this Bed & single Breakfast rate on checkout.

A few pictures of the hotel....

You can book and pay on the payments page along with your conference registration!

Many people have booked for CYA in complete faith that my author TBA would be of the same high standard as all the other presenters - and I believe that we have not let you down....we have delivered yet another interesting author, with a fantastic topic to workshop with both Alligaters and Hatchlings......

Introducing you to Amanda Ashby, our last presenter to be names on the program, and the last on the Alligators program, but the first to be introduced to you on our blog....

Amanda will be doing workshops on:

Why TV Is A Writer’s Best Friend ~ How to identify classic elements of storytelling, while sitting on the couch watching your favourite television shows.

Amanda says ,”I learnt more from watching Buffy than I ever did from reading a How to Write book. Plus I think soap operas are a great example of how to write cliff hangers and milk emotions etc.”

I know that from now until conference, I am going to be watching everything I want to and giving myself permission to watch TV instead of beating myself up over it....all in the name of research for my writing, of course.....

Her latest book Fairy Bad Day is published in Australia by Penguin Australia through their Puffin imprint and is available now, and she has another four books coming out over the next  eighteen months...

Lastly - reminder to all Hatchlings that your electronic entries need to be in by midnight 31st July 2011. Good luck!

And just like a book has an ending, so must this good news page....until next time...

CYA later alligators and hatchlings!
