CYA Conference 2009

14 September 2009

Another fabulous conference was held on Saturday!

A big thank you to everyone who made it possible, the competition entrants, the attendees, the sponsors, the presenters and industry professionals, the judges, both first and final rounds and the volunteers.

A special thank you to our husbands, Shaun Clark and Steve Howard, for your continued support and encouragement.

The competition winners results are upon the competition page - please check back later this week for the rest of the results.

Photographs and conference notes and handouts will take about another two weeks to get loaded on the web site, but we will load them as we receive them, so keep checking back, if you were in a session and want to know what happened in the one running at the same time, or you missed a session, keep checking back  - the notes will go up. As volunteers were both note takes and photographers and have day jobs too - we will get there - promise!

A tiny insight into the celebration dinner, after CYA Conference a few friends, volunteers and presenters were at a dinner across the road ( yes in walking distance) where we were shaken and deafened by the F1-11’s doing their wonderful dump and burn over Brisbane and serenaded by the sound and reflections of the fireworks happening on South Bank. ( Thanks Lynn for the photo.) Although Tina is at this end closest to the camera, Ally is right down the opposite side... can’t have them plotting 2010 without celebrating 2009 first!

Thank you everyone for sharing the CYA experience with us.

11 September 2009

CYA introduces you to three best selling authors today: Jackie French, Meredith Costain and Anita Bell.

Jackie French is one of Australia’s most loved children’s fiction writers.

She is also passionate about gardening, writing about the theory of weed ecology and pest control or her much loved pets including lyrebirds, bush rats and of course her beloved house guests, the wombats.

Meredith Costain is a versatile writer whose work ranges from picture books through to ‘tween’ fiction. Her books include Bed Tails, My Baby Love, A Year in Girl Hell and Musical Harriet, which was adapted for television by the ABC.

Meredith lives in inner-city Melbourne with a menagerie of pets.

Meredith joins us for a Master Class on Constructing a Picture Book - her web site is: Meredith Costain

Anita Bell has been with CYA from 2005 when the concept of CYA was first imagined, and the ball began rolling into CYA’s first conference in 2006. She is a pillar of strength to CYA and a passionate believer in the need for Children Young Adult Writers and Illustrators professional development. CYA says a HUGE THANK YOU to Anita.

Anita is the author of thrillers Crystal Coffin and Project Apocalypse as well as the spin off series for younger readers called Kirby's Crusaders.

Also author of 8 bestselling finance titles, including Your Mortgage and over 190 published/award winning short stories, articles and poems as well as featured in two anthologies of most popular children’s authors (2004, 2005).

Anita will once again perform the welcome speech for CYA COnference, and announce the competition results.

You can meet her before hand on her site:  Anita Bell

I can’t believe that as I write this, CYA is only one sleep away...and I probably won’t get much sleep as we are setting up for CYA tonight, and attending Shane Thamm’s book launch ( remember that ... see you there!)

Otherwise - CYA tomorrow 12th September at CYA Conference 2009.

CYA later!
