Emma is based in Toowoomba in South East Queensland. The ‘Child Writes’ program is her brainchild, and teaches children how to write and illustrate their own picture books. It is for primary school aged children. The books are then published through Emma’s publishing business, Boogie Books.
Emma has been speaking in classrooms in and around Toowoomba for several years. She has written and illustrated and self published two children’s picture books, ‘I Can Do Anything,’ and ‘Lily, Fabourama, Glamourama.’ Her short story ‘Sam, I Am’ was included in an anthology ‘Time Will Tell’ which was published by the Toowoomba Education Centre. It was an exciting time when contributing to a magazine on a regular basis, with her articles being featured in all sixteen Toowoomba’s Child editions! Emma has published a cookbook ‘A Little Black Cook Book’ and the anthology ‘A Child’s View’ (for Child Protection Week 2008) as well as nearly eighty books written and illustrated by Child Writes participants.
A self confessed ‘project addict,’ she has also put words together for Tarn McLean’s exhibition book ‘Interpersonal Relationships’ and for Dr Rhonda Greensill’s book ‘Eggs Contradict.’ Yvonne Blakeney has self published ‘Where’s Elf’ with Emma’s guidance, and she also set it up to be print ready!
Believing everyone has the right to see their words in print has become a slight obsession, and she is currently writing a ‘how to’ guide for inspiring writers ‘Child Writes, So you Think Writing a Book is Childs Play!’ which will be finished at the end of 2010.
