Emma is based in Toowoomba in South East Queensland. The ‘Child Writes’ program is her brainchild. It is a program nurturing literacy and creativity. Primary school aged children have the opportunity to be involved in every step of the book , authoring, illustrating and publishing process. The books are then published through boutique specialist children’s book publisher, Boogie Books.
Emma has been speaking in classrooms in and around Toowoomba for several years. She has written and illustrated and self published two children’s picture books, ‘I Can Do Anything,’ and ‘Lily, Fabourama, Glamourama.’ Her short story ‘Sam, I Am’ was included in an anthology ‘Time Will Tell’ which was published by the Toowoomba Education Centre. Emma has published a cookbook ‘A Little Black Cook Book’ and the anthology ‘A Child’s View’ (for Child Protection Week 2008) as well as over 130 books written and illustrated by Child Writes participants.
Believing everyone has the right to see their words in print has become a slight obsession. The ‘how to’ guide for inspiring writers ‘Child Writes, Creating a Children’s Picture book is Child’s Play,’ is due for launch in September. It was written by Emma and edited by Ainsley Shepherd.
