After more than 20 years experience in the book industry, Jacinta di Mase started her own agency in 2004. The agency is committed to the creation of quality books that engage, entertain, and inspire. Agency staff have a good track record for spotting works with commercial potential and working with creators to maximise that potential. The agency represents a diverse range of award winning, and emerging writers and illustrators across all areas of the publishing market including fiction, non fiction, and books for children and young adults.

Jacinta has a background in book selling and publishing, and worked for ten years in two of Australia’s premier literary agencies: Australian Literary Management (ALM), and Jenny Darling & Associates. She graduated with distinction from the RMIT Graduate Diploma of Editing & Publishing (1996) and studied Copyright Law at Melbourne University. Jacinta was a member of the Australia Council for the Arts Visiting International Publishers Program committee 2013-2016. She is the past President of the Australian Literary Agents’ Association (ALAA), a current member of the RMIT Program Advisory Committee for the Master of Writing and Publishing, and ALAA representative for the Australian Inclusive Publishing Initiative working across industry to make ‘inclusive by design’ a reality for Australian readers with a print disability.

Adult fiction which is commercially savvy, plot driven, authentic characters, page turning.

Think: The Weekend by Charlotte Woods, What I like About Me by Jenna Guillaume, Half Moon Lake by Kirsten Alexander, The Bookshop of the Broken Hearted by Robert Hillman, and The Helpline by Katherine Collette, and The White Girl by Tony Birch.

Jacinta will be looking at picture books

What she's looking for in a picture book is hard to describe, but research current best sellers and perennial favourites and explore why they work: I'm a Dirty Dinosaur, I Just Ate My friend, Bad Crab, Mopoke, books by Tohby Riddle, Owl babies and other books by Martin Waddell, Peepo!, Each Peach, Pear Plum and other books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, Do Not Lick This Book, The Great Rabbit Chase by Freya Blackwood, Bob Graham stories etc...

Jacinta is not looking for didactic, picture books with an obvious "message".

Rhyme (unless you're another Amelia McInerney and have done your research on the various forms of rhyme). And no Poo, and bum books.

Jacinta will be providing verbal feedback with her assessments
