Marisa Pintado is the commissioning editor of children's and YA fiction at Hardie Grant Egmont in Melbourne, Australia's largest independent specialist kids' publisher. HGE publishes a wide range of junior, middle-grade and YA fiction, including bestselling children's series such as Billie B Brown, Squishy Taylor, Zac Power and Go Girl, and Michael Grant's GONE series.
Marisa publishes across the fiction list, with a special interest in YA and middle-grade, and loves working closely with her authors. In 2011, she launched the Ampersand Prize, an annual search for manuscripts by unpublished writers. This initiative has so far launched the careers of two incredible YA novelists, Melissa Keil and Erin Gough, whose debut novels have both sold internationally and been nominated for a raft of Australian awards.
Marisa has worked in children's publishing for nearly a decade, and recently returned from a year in London where she was seconded to Egmont UK's children's fiction team.
Marisa will be looking at Middle-grade and YA fiction, and also proposals/samples for junior fiction series. Open to all genres but particularly interested in contemporary, horrors and thrillers for YA, and humour, adventure and mysteries for MG in her one on one assessments.
