Date of Success:
Brooke Graham is an emerging children’s author. She has recently signed with EK Books and her debut picture book will be released in 2020. Brooke is a primary school teacher and works part time in a small country school teaching a variety of subjects. She enjoys writing picture books and is also currently working on a YA story.
Brooke has always been fascinated with children’s books, especially pictures books. The weekly library lesson was her favourite aspect of primary school and she has fond memories of the librarian reading and sharing new stories to the class. Aside from her love of picture books and YA, Brooke also enjoys reading contemporary fiction.
Brooke is a member of SCBWI and two critique groups.
When Brooke isn’t teaching, writing or reading she loves to go on adventures with her daughter. Her three dogs and two stockhorses also keep her very busy.
WHAT CYA CONFERENCE DID FOR ME
After receiving encouraging feedback in the 2017 CYA competition I felt ready to attend my first CYA Conference in 2018. I met some lovely writers and illustrators and the presenters and volunteers were extremely friendly and helpful.
I had booked an editor’s session with Anouska Jones of EK Books and was quite nervous; however Anouska’s friendly personality set me at ease straight away. She loved one of my manuscripts and asked me to resubmit it after making a minor revision. A few months later I signed with EK Books, and my debut picture book will be published in 2020!
I am looking forward to attending the 2019 CYA Conference. Thankyou CYA for the amazing work that you do!
