Date of Success:
Tina Wilson is a writer and illustrator with a passion for childrens’ books.
The first two books in her series for young children, Monkey’s Great Adventures, encourage kids and adults alike to explore their imagination and their relationship with those around them through the love of toys.
Combining photography, design and hand made knitted characters (lovingly made by her mother), she encourages the love of all things hand-made.
Tina has just signed a two-book deal with Wombat Books, due for release in 2020.
In a prior life, she was the founder and creator of the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, Australia’s third richest portrait prize and in 2018 was honored to become a Patron of the prize. In 2013 she was awarded the City of Perth Premiers Active Citizenship Award for her contribution to the arts.
Tina now spends her time moving between painting, drawing, writing, publishing, creating children’s books…and drinking chai! She is also busily working on her first adult novel.
WHAT CYA CONFERENCE DID FOR ME
Besides making me the most nervous I have been since High School…the CYA Conference gave me the confidence in my skills as a writer and illustrator. The five minute pitch sessions were frightening, but an exceptionally valuable experience. It forced me to really think about what I was doing and why. I was extremely lucky to have met Emily from Wombat Books, who believed in my work.
