Stephen Barr is a senior literary agent at Writer House, where he started out as an intern in 2008. He represents a broad stripe of authors across all genres, with a perpetual hankering for audacious, voice-abundant YA, intricate picture books, mysteries that handcuff humour and tragedy to the same radiator, and really any fiction that tackles heavy themes with a light touch.
Stephen is looking for stories that surprises, a story that's told with sincerity but not over-seriousness, a story that asks a lot of questions and leaves some of the trickiest ones unanswered, a story that feels true even if it's hilariously, ridiculously untrue, a story that pushes buttons, a story that does something new!
He's not looking for anything that explicitly moralizes or simplifies complicated issues or doesn't challenge the tropes it's trading in or (more specifically) is a memoir about online dating : )
