Brooke is a children’s author and teacher. She writes picture books and junior fiction. She enjoys writing stories help children cope with big issues. Brooke is a member of the SCBWI, ASA and Write Links. Her debut picture book, Go Away, Worry Monster! was published by EK Books in 2020.
In her spare time Brooke enjoys reading, bike riding, hiking and hanging out with family and friends. She lives with her daughter and three dogs in a cute country cottage on the outskirts of Brisbane, Australia.
WHAT CYA CONFERENCE DID FOR ME
After receiving encouraging feedback in the 2017 CYA competition I felt ready to attend my first CYA Conference in 2018.
I’d booked an editor assessment with Anouska Jones of EK Books and was quite nervous; however, Anouska’s friendly personality set me at ease straight away. She loved one of my manuscripts and asked me to make a minor change and formally submit it. A few months later I signed with EK Books, and my debut picture book will be published in 2020!
The CYA conference is a wonderful opportunity for writers and illustrators to network, meet editors and further their knowledge. Everyone is very welcoming and supportive. I’ve met many of my writing friends through CYA, including my main critique partner.
