Sarah knew, even in primary school, that her dream was be a children’s author and illustrator. In 2021, she graduated from a Bachelor of Visual Art and Design with the Dean's Award for the most outstanding major work - a complete mock-up of an illustrated novel. This novel, Flight of the Drakkonbarq, will be released on October 1 by Riveted Press.
Sarah likes lying under trees, roaming through bookstores, splashing in the ocean, drinking tea, and teaching high school Art and English. In her illustrations, she enjoys exploring a range of creative practices, from traditional to digital. Sarah's writing, like her art, expresses an unconstrained delight in the beauty of the world, coupled with a sensitive awareness of human struggles and unfulfilled longings.
WHAT CYA CONFERENCE DID FOR ME
Sarah has been attending and entering CYA competitions and boot camps since she first received an award in the Hatchlings division as a teenager. In 2022, she registered for a CYA manuscript assessment with Rowena Beresford. This opened the door to her being offered her first contract for a middle grade novel with Riveted Press.
