Open themed fiction and non-fiction writing for the adult genres.

Everything is a Genre Competition

We're starting a new competition category to coincide with our inaugural day for authors of all genres and ages.

 

The winner of Aspiring and Published category in the Everything is a Genre Competition will have a 15 minutes face-to-face critique, at the CYA Conference on 7 July 2019 with the competition final judge who will be on site on the day. If the winner is not attending the conference day, the consultation will be held via video conference.

Categories

Judging will be in three categories: Under 18s, Aspiring, and Published

 

Other than that it's:

  • Open themed.

  • Any story. 

  • Any genre.

 

 

Under 18s and Unpublished Writers

Open themed: First 5,000 words maximum and a one page single spaced synopsis.

First round judging: The first 1,000 words and the synopsis is read by the judges.

Final judging: The final judge will read your synopsis and the full 5,000 words.

 

Published Writers

Open themed: First 12,500 words maximum and a one page single spaced synopsis.

First round judging: The first 12,500 words and the synopsis is read by the judges.

Final judging: The final judge will read your synopsis and the full 12,500 words.

 

 

Stories for children need to be entered in the Children's sections.

 
 
Eligibility

Under 18s Writers

  • All writers who are 8 – 18 years old (as at 7 April 2019) worldwide, who have not been published in book format within the adult genres.

  • All entries must have a parent or guardian's details on the entry form.

  • Contest entry may not be contracted or published in any form when entered.

Aspiring Writers

All writers worldwide, who have not been published in book format within the adult genres. 
This contest is also open to currently published writers worldwide who are either:

  • Published with one book in print within the adult genres ONLY; OR

  • Published in e-book format with one book within the adult genres ONLY; OR

  • Self-published with one book within the adult genres ONLY.

  • Published with books in print and e-book format in other genres.

  • Contest entry may not be contracted or published in any form when entered.

Published Writers (This section opens 21 January)

This contest is open to currently published writers worldwide, who are either:

  • Published with two books or more in print within the adult genres ONLY; OR

  • Published in e-book format with two books or more within the adult genres ONLY; OR

  • Self-published with two books or more within the adult genres ONLY.

  • Contest entry may not be contracted or published in any form when entered.
