Carolyn Martinez - Editor Assessments

Carolyn Martinez is the Director of Hawkeye Publishing, and an editor with 30 years experience. She moved from newspapers into books, and has a MA (Writing) and Grad Dip (Management). Hawkeye became a trade house in 2019 and now has a stable of exceptional Australian authors.

 

Carolyn (pen name Cate Sawyer) is the co-author of the bestselling writing guide Winning Short Story Competitions: Essential Tools for the Serious Writer. Hawkeye’s success was featured in In Review, In Daily Queensland. Carolyn is a multiple nominee for the Queensland Writers’ Centre’s Johnno Award for outstanding service to writers and writing. She’s particularly known for nurturing writers, and editing tautologies to sharpen pace.

She is particularly experienced in commercial children's and adult non-fiction, and children's picture books, middle grade, young adult, and adult genre fiction including romance, historical, crime, adventure, noir, fantasy, and contemporary with a particular interest in Australian storytelling. Publisher pitching is within her expertise.
 

Carolyn is not suitable to advise on poetry collections. 

 

Carolyn will be assessing fiction and non-fiction: adult, YA, middle-grade and picture books. She will not be looking at poetry or horror.

    If you want to set up a fortnightly payment plan, use the code CYA26 at checkout. A 15% non-refundable deposit is required upfront for payment plans, with full payment due before your session.

     

    Please note that payment plans aren’t available for early-bird tickets, and each attendee may have one payment plan.

Assessment sessions important information

    • In-person assessments are only available to in-person attendees, unless by prior arrangement.
    • They are available only to conference, bootcamp, and Writers at Sea Retreat attendees.
    • May be booked before the conference, but you must book for the conference by 15 May; otherwise, your session will be cancelled and not refunded.
    • A $25.00 administration charge applies if you cancel before 15 May.
    • They are non-refundable if cancelled after 15 May, unless we can resell the session.
