Clare Hallifax Bootcamp

Clare Hallifax is the publisher at Walker Books Australia. Prior to joining Walker, she spent almost 12 years at Scholastic Australia, as publisher of the Omnibus Books, Scholastic’s literary imprint, and also as Managing Editor and Publishing Manager in the publishing division.

 

Clare’s interest in publishing began early when she pored over imprint pages as a child, pondering how the book came to be. She began her media career as a journalist at the Canberra Parliamentary Press Gallery then escaped into postgraduate studies in Literature and Art at both the Australian National University and the University of Sydney.

 

Not counting her childhood fascination, Clare has worked in publishing industry for over 30 years, with a career spanning children’s and adult publishing in all its genres, literary and mass market, fiction and non-fiction. She has worked with some of the esteemed names of Australian children’s publishing including Mem Fox, Emily Rodda, Michael Gerard Bauer, Julie Vivas, Kerry Argent, Philip Bunting, Stephen Michael King and Richard Yaxley

  • About the bootcamps

    The Bootcamp is a day spent with an editor where you will receive feedback on your work in small group sessions, time to work on your manuscripts followed by a progress session where they will give you further feedback, there is also a discussion panel and a Q&A session. 

    Places for the Bootcamp are strictly limited to four people per group, with each editor working with two groups. 

    Groups will be divided into

    • Chapter Books, including Young Adult Novels
    • Picture Books

    You do not need to be coming to the conference to join a bootcamp.
