Danielle Binks is a Melbourne-based writer and literary agent with Jacinta di Mase Management. In 2017, she edited and contributed to Begin, End, Begin, an anthology of new Australian young adult writing inspired by the #LoveOzYA movement, which won the ABIA Book of the Year for Older Children (Ages 13+). The Year the Maps Changed, Danielle’s bestselling middle-grade novel, was a 2021 Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Notable Book, and is 2022-forthcoming in North America with Quill Tree Books. Her first solo YA novel The Monster of Her Age, released in 2021. Danielle is also teaching the ‘Writing Stream‘ for the Associate Degree of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University.Danielle tends towards eclectic fiction across adult and youth literature - and she is always looking for culturally-diverse stories. Please, nothing of Romantasy (she also has a Publishing Substack where her thoughts on such genres are well-documented.
Strong narrative and distinctive voice, 'elevated fiction' (good for book-club discussion) and with a killer elevator-pitch. Recent books in this area that Danielle has loved (that she doesn't rep), include; The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. Chlorine by Jade Song. Nightingale by Laura Elvery. Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis.
She adores horror (Frankenstein is her fave) and loves Carmen Maria Machado and Isabel Canas in this space. In Historical she especially loves Historical Romance (Lisa Kleypas is her hands-down fave) but she and Jacinta also rep Paullina Simons, so they both love historical.
She is especially after humour in YA, as well as romance and horror in the teen space - Gothic Horror would be a slam-dunk (big fan of CG Drews and Keshe Chow, for instance).
Please look up the JdM website - to see who else Danielle represents and what she likes. Some of the specific authors Danielle reps at JdM include; Sinead Stubbins, Jane Harrison, Fiona Hardy, Kay Kerr, Jenna Lo Bianco, Biffy James, Margot McGovern, Scott Woodard, and Sandy Bigna etc.
Nothing of medical romance. Nothing inspired by family history to do with the First Fleet or anything of Colonial/British settlement history - absolutely nothing, please. No no no Romantasy. And it should go without saying, but; I refuse to read anything written via generative AI. If you have any portion of a manuscript that was AI-assisted or written, please strike me off from your submissions.
