Sarah Davis is a multiple award-winning illustrator, and associate art director for Walker Books Australia. In her role at Walker she has designed award-winning picture books and had the privilege of working with many of Australia’s pre-eminent illustrators. Her own illustration career began in 2009, and since then has gone on to illustrate over 50 titles, in a range of styles and genres. Sarah has an Honours degree in literature, and her love of language and narrative underpins her illustration work. With each project she experiments with new ways to construct visual narratives, working across a range of media. Sarah has collaborated with many major publishing houses and commercial clients across Australia, New Zealand, the USA and the UK. An experienced presenter with a teaching background, she regularly speaks at schools, festivals and universities throughout Australia and internationally. Sarah is also proud to be an ambassador for Room to Read.
Sarah is passionate about identifying and developing talent, and helping fabulous books emerge into the light of day. She has positive working relationships with Australia’s biggest publishing houses and is actively seeking manuscripts with potential to pass on to appropriate editors. Sarah will look at portfolios and/or book dummies from aspiring and established illustrators working in picture books, illustrated fiction or graphic novels.
She will give constructive, actionable feedback on how to improve your technique, develop your personal style, strengthen your portfolio, and increase the market appeal of your work.
Sarah does not assess long-form/adult/YA manuscripts.
